Recent news
(5/10/02) Cathie! Sunset Hill! Cathie is being feted at the
third Sunday open band in Sunset Hill (3003 NW 66th St Ballard).
(5/10/02) More rehearsals! Joe Micheals is hosting a
get-together on Sunday May 19 at 1:30 pm until people leave for Sunset
Hill. 4401 W. Bertona Magnolia; 284-5482 for directions.
(5/10/02) Revised dots! Sean Bolton offers some
revised tunes that are "closer to the
way the 2001 group plays them". I'll make pages out of these presently.
(4/26/02) Rehearsals! Miche Baker-Harvey has kindly offered
her house on Mondays for rehearsals. "1212 17th Avenue East, and folks
are welcome to call me (322-8148) for directions". 7pm start.
(4/26/02) New dots! Check out the
tune list for dots (sheet music) and MIDI files. Nicer format,
and 4th of July is now in the right key.
(4/23/02) Dots! Check out the
tune list for dots (sheet music) and MIDI files. Any resemblance
between the electronic version and a real fiddle player is, well,
insulting to the fiddle player; but you can get an idea of the tune.
(4/9/02) We're in! We're playing Folklife! Our timeslot is the
Roadhouse at 7pm on Friday 24 May. At last word,
Cathie and Laurie both were free and able to join us.
So... calling all Cathie students! If you are an
alumnus of any of Cathie Whitesides' Northern Tunes workshops, or
a fiddle student of hers, show up and play with the band.
We're going to try to organize a couple of rehearsals, and there's
a tune list for you to practice,
but please please show up whether you think you can play these tunes or not.
You can get in touch with one
or another of us if you want to keep
posted by e-mail.
And please spread the word!
(11/14/01) Call for players! If you are a Cathie Whitesides alumni (either
a fiddle student of hers or a participant in one of the Northern Tunes
contra dance workshops over the years), do
get in touch with one
or another of us and let us
know whether you're interested in joining in a big band for next year's
Folklife. (Of course you are! You already know some of the tunes!)
(11/14/01) We turned in the Folklife application today, to play as a
band at the Festival next spring. We chose a segment of Smash the Windows
played en masse at this year's workshop as a representative
audio sample.
